Super cool cafe in Hanoi | Buddhist BuffetKeegan and I discovered this vegetarian buffet at a Buddhist restaurant near Hanoi train station before our train to Da Nang. | Cat Ba CrabOne of the more exotic things on our Cat Ba cruise. These were stuffed with shrimp and rice. Some of our fellow travelers weren't keen on the accusing eyes. | Challenging ShrimpYou had to work pretty hard to get the meat and avoid the shell of these. In Da Nang. | Cobb SaladSometimes, you just need some fresh veggies. We went to a nice upscale restaurant in downtown Da Nang, and John gave in to this western lure. | IMG_20190921_203014 | Steak in the sky barOn our last night in Da Nang, we sought out a recommended roof top steak house from which to see the dragon show. The dinner was good (though Keegan's steak was too fatty and had to be sent back), but the musical act featured a shrill, smarmy female singer from the Phillipines butchering rock classics at far too loud a volume. | Udon ProductionOur Hoi An food tour guide, Harry, explaining how these beautiful Udon noodles are made. | Sprouting BeansAnother stop on Harry's tour taught us how bean sprouts are grown in sand over night, then washed and sent to market. | Bahn MyA favorite on the food tour was the Bahn My (Bon Mi?) which features fresh baguettes with pate, veggies and meat of choice. | Dessert DumplingsHarry from Hoi An modelling freshly made passion fruit desserts. | Sticky Rice PuddingOur final stop on the Hoi An food tour took us to a home factory where this sesame sticky rice has been made for 70 years - available only here. | Fish AmokOn our first night in Siem Reap, Keegan went straight for the most Cambodian dish possible, and loved it. | Rice for AmokThe rice that accompanied Keegan's Amok. | New Leaf CappuccinoWe loved the New Leaf Eatery in Siem Reap, which had delicious breakfasts, great coffee, and a commitment to sustainability. | Full EnglishNew Leaf Eatery's take on the full English breakfast. Here was a farewell breakfast choice. | Hawaiian Rice in PineappleOne of many dishes we enjoyed at Veed View on the beach in Ko Lanta, Thailand. | Stuffed SnapperKeegan didn't expect a whole fish, but loved this tropical dish at Veed View on Kho Lanta. | Nuts with thatOur hotel bar at Laguna Beach Resort in Kho Lanta had very limited food choices during low season, but served these complimentary peanuts with curry spice, basil and mint that we just loved. | "Half rack"One night in Kho Lanta, we went to a very cool place (Where Else) sat down and looked at the menu, and realized that 3/4 of us wanted burgers. The place was deserted, so we had appetizers and then headed for the best burgers on the island at the Koala Bar. Laura, the 4th of us, went for a 1/2 rack of the ribs. Apparently Aussie portions are bigger than even American. | Tiramisu MartiniA very very tasty "dessert" martini, served at the elegant Mozzarella restaurant in Kuta, Bali, Indonesia. | Branded BintangThe beach bars in Kuta serve the same beer - Bintang, including the excellent lemon and organge Radlers - but brand it with their own cozies. We liked the retro sentiment of this one. | Smashed AvoKuta is very tailored to the Aussie tourists, and apparently this is a favorite breakfast dish. | Artistic Acai BowlNaomi ordered this beautiful bowl at a local cafe / hostel near our first hotel in Kuta. | Acai Appreciation...and she liked it! |
